My Thoughts:

I received this product via my beloved Boxycharm subscription, and although I am not a big fan of eyeliner pencils, I actually enjoy using this one. I’m not the biggest fan of the packaging, but the wax itself is a great product. It’s always delightful to get full-size products in my subscription boxes and this little number has lasted me quite some time.

I know this review seems harsh, but I LOATHE pencil products. Not because they’re all horrible, but because they’re so wasteful when it comes time to sharpen them. Yeah, you get a sharper tip and more product available, but in the sharpener, you have half of that product just getting thrown away. I’ll always prefer the twist-up pencils that don’t require sharpening for that reason alone. There’s nothing more insulting that investing in a product, only for them to have you throw half of it away just to be able to continue to use it. I also tend to minimize waste by removing the wax that attaches to the shavings when I sharpen the pencil and melt them into a pan so I can use it with a brush to apply product. My frustration with that is I shouldn’t have to spend that extra time on any product. With so many products out there competing to be purchased, brands should make adjustments that make their products more convenient than their competition.

The cap is a bit unreliable, so I don’t recommend bringing this with you throughout your day for touch-ups, unless you keep it in something like a pencil pouch and on its own. That seems like more work than it’s worth, but to each his own.

Performance/Wear:                                  ★★★★★/5

It stays true to its charcoal color by not being so dark that it looks black, but not being so light that it looks like a light grey. This color is a great middle color to add drama, without being too light or too intense. The wax itself glides easily and doesn’t tug or scratch at my waterline, which is one of the main reasons I don’t care for pencil makeup products. When worn on the waterline, it only budges if I cry. When worn on the lash line, it doesn’t matter if I cry, sweat, or get caught in the rain, it holds its place. Now, you might think, “Well, if it holds that well, it’s probably a pain to wash off.” Your assumption is partially right. For the waterline, yeah, any eyeliner you wear, it’s a pain to remove, but when worn on the lash line, it removes as easy as the rest of my makeup, regardless if I use my favorite makeup remover wipes, my beloved Makeup Eraser cloth, or micellar water, it melts off with ease.

If you’re in a pinch, this can also be used as a mascara if you take the shavings and mix it with some clear brow gel. Now, it won’t work as well as a typical mascara does, but it can hold you over to complete your look until you can run to the store to go get yourself a new tube of eyelash magic.

For the quality of product, the price is fair. For the packaging, I think this product isn’t worth it. Personally, I wouldn’t purchase something that’s going to waste my money, no matter how affordable it is. I understand there are people out there who love pencil products, and for them, this product would work great, because like I said, the was itself works really well.
