My Thoughts:

Yet another gem provided to me by my Glossybox subscription and this one is one of the winners! The company sends a mix of full-size and deluxe mini products each month and they (& Laqa) were awesome enough to send their customers a full-size lipstick. Upon reading the information card, I was hesitant about whether or not I’d like this, let alone if I’d even want to try it because of how many matte products are truly awful products, but after swatching it on my hand, I was surprised and intrigued.

Surprised because this seemed like one of the few matte products that wouldn’t destroy my lips and intrigued because it felt so good on my hand, so I could only imagine how well it would wear on my lips. This brand was new to me, so I was excited to see where this new brand would (or wouldn’t) fit in my makeup collection. The scent is a bit off-putting, but it is light and dissipates quickly so hopefully that’s a compromise for those who have headaches or migraines easily triggered by certain smells.

Packaging:                                                ★★★★★/5

Whew! That is one sleek and sophisticated tube of lipstick! Rose gold and coral colors are my favorite and for this to have the former and have a mirrored effect to boot. The lettering is simple, yet chic with only the brand name and product type written on the tube, while avoiding overwhelming and flashy design that allows the product quality to speak for itself. With the tube a little chubbier than I’d like, the twist-up tube more than compensates for that flaw.

The cap is securely held on the tube and requires a bit more strength to remove it than most other lipstick tubes, but it’s not a bad thing in my opinion. I would definitely prefer the cap be too tightly held on the tube than for it to be a nuisance in its inability to stay on the tube. The plastic material feels light and seems like it would break easily if I dropped it, yet it has survived all the accidental drops I’ve done to it. The light weight of the packaging makes it a great choice for traveling and since this can be multi-purpose, it works for many products and eases the weight cost for luggage.

Performance/Wear:                               ★★★★★/5

This may be one of the hopeful matte lipsticks I’ve ever used, but it still doesn’t compete with my favorite matte lipsticks from Tarte, Too Faced, or Stila. It glides on so smoothly and it’s one of the few lip products that feels so light and airy when I wear it. This lipstick genuinely feels as if I’m not wearing anything on my lips! Although that’s a nice effect for my skin in the sense that it’s breathable, it also has the downside to it not being moisturizing.

I have dry skin, so I try to wear products that provide moisturizing ingredients to help alleviate the lack of moisture naturally produced by my skin. The color is so rich and pigmented that it only takes one quick swipe to create an opaque and matte finish that lasts through the day. There is a bit of transferring and it doesn’t easily smudge, but it does fade evenly so it isn’t as blotchy as other lipsticks can be when it fades more in certain spots than others.

On the plus side, the formula is versatile because if you decide you want the color but not the finish you can add a gloss over it and it won’t cause a weird reaction with the look on my lips. Another added benefit is that it also works as a cream blush without enhancing any signs of aging or enlarging the look of pores. No matter how I use it, it doesn’t settle into fine lines either on my lips or on my cheeks.

The color doesn’t oxidize which is a great benefit because other lipsticks like Too Faced or Kat Von D do. I do like that it gives my lips a slightly fuller look to them, but it’s nothing extravagant in comparison to other lip-plumping lippies like the Too Faced Lip Injection. The biggest question for lipsticks is whether or not it bleeds, and this lipstick holds itself together so well without the slightest hint of running through the fine lines around my lip line.

Without any feathering or enhancing any dry spots I may have, like chapped lips, When I use it as a cream blush, I can only blend it for a minute or two before it becomes powdery and blends off. I think maybe that’s just a reaction of the ingredients in this formula with the foundation and powder I wore it over because it doesn’t have the same effect when I use it as a lipstick. This mauvey, dusty rose color is flattery for every skin tone at every age. I’ve used this on bridal clients and some of the lovely mothers of the brides and it looks marvelous no matter who wears it.

Price:                                                          ★★★★★/5

Considering how much product comes in the tube and how versatile it is, I would say this is definitely worth the price. From the intense pigment to how it truly feels like it isn’t on my lips when I wear it, this is truly a gem of a lipstick.
