My Thoughts:

Once again, Glossybox came through with an AMAZING makeup product in one of their boxes and this time around, it was with this delightful mascara! Now, Glossybox varies on sending mascaras in deluxe minis and full-sizes, but they always manage to send me a new one around the time I need to replace the one I’m using. The timing is remarkable and so is this product and since I’ve used it, I’ve absolutely adored it.

I was a bit bummed that this came as a deluxe mini because I would’ve loved to have this formula longer than a month or two, but it is what it is. The main benefit is that I was able to try a new product that I would’ve probably overlooked at the store because when it comes to mascara, I tend to find one I love and stick with it. Mascaras are expensive and one of the most imperative products in your makeup kit to replace so I don’t like to take many risks with mascara formulas.

Since it did come as a deluxe mini, my review will be based on that, but keep in mind there are a few things that will differ with the full-size mascara, like the packaging. Those of you who have migraines or headaches easily triggered by smells can rest easy because this smells like every other mascara I’ve tried and the smell fades rather quickly after it’s dried.

Packaging:                                                ★★★★★/5

Being that I got the deluxe mini tube, there isn’t much to divulge about this on that aspect because the tube is pretty plain, and the designs are minimal. The cap is secure which gives me piece of mind when I bring this to the gym with me that it won’t twist itself open in my bag and create a mess. The wand looks a lot like the wand from Too Faced Better Than Sex mascara wand, except that this one isn’t in the shape of an hourglass and there is a side of shorter bristles on one side to help get closer to the lash line without making a mess on the eyeshadow on my lids, unlike the TF mascara.

I have no complaints about the outside packaging or the wand so I won’t knock off any stars.

Performance/Wear:                               ★★★★★/5

My previous favorite mascaras have been with Benefit’s They’re Real!, TF’s Better Than Sex, and Lancôme’s Hypnose mascara, but this one beats out ALL OF THEM. The Better Than Sex mascara feels very thick and dry from the first time I’ve used it and it flakes off throughout the day, but as long as I carry powder with me to dust it off, it’s a great mascara and gives me intense lashes. Benefit’s They’re Real! Mascara creates intense volume and thickness, but you have to be careful or it’ll go from dramatic and glam to tarantula legs real quick because the bristles are spaced out a bit too far so it’s easy for clumps to happen.

Lancome’s Hypnose basically does the same thing as Benefit’s but it takes longer to clump up and it has way cooler packaging. This formula, however, doesn’t clump and with just 2 coats, this mascara turns my lashes from blah to WOW! Even for the times that I would make a quick run to the grocery store without doing a full face of makeup before I left the house, I could swipe on a few coats of this and it would make such a tremendous difference to my face! Who knew mascara could open up my eyes and make me look more awake while feeling like I wasn’t wearing anything on my eyes!

My main issue with the mascara was that it seemed to dry up rather quickly in comparison to other formulas I’ve tried, even as deluxe minis. I’m not sure if it’s because it was opened prior to being mailed off to check for defects or what but it seemed to dry so fast. I don’t think it was me because I’m always careful with my mascaras because I try to avoid any unnecessary bacteria getting in the tube when I’m applying it, but I guess I won’t know for sure until I repurchase it and test that out. I still have a few mascaras to use up before I buy a new mascara, but it’s definitely on the list of Holy Grail products and I know it’ll be my go-to until I come across a better formula.

The color doesn’t oxidize or fade when it dries or throughout the day, the intense black color is what you get when you apply it and the entire time you wear it. Since it isn’t waterproof, you’ll still need to take precautions when going to the gym or crying because it will run with sweat or excessive moisture. I personally never recommend waterproof mascara for daily use because it is very harsh on your lashes and for your eye area containing some of the most sensitive skin on your body, I always recommend using regular formulas to protect that. Your eyelashes are your eye’s bodyguards to bacteria that tries to fall down or float into your eyes and keeps infections from getting into the sensitive area and waterproof mascaras tend to not only rip out those important, yet delicate hairs, but they also tend to be more difficult to remove, causing excess scrubbing which in turn influences early signs of aging. This gentle, yet sturdy formula helps prevent excess stress on your eyes like that.

At the end of the day, this is easy peasy to wash off or remove with your favorite makeup remover wipes. Since it does create intense density, length, and volume to lashes, I wouldn’t recommend applying this to your lower lashes because then it becomes overwhelming on your face and makes eyes look very small in comparison to not wearing this at all. Personally, I’m not a big fan of wearing mascara on lower lashes in general, but this creates too much drama doing that, so I suggest only using this on the top lashes. I promise you, your lashes will still look amazing without wearing mascara on the bottom lashes and I’m sure you’ll fall in love with this amazing formula just like I have.

Here’s what it looks like 1 coat looks like in comparison to no mascara:

Compared to drugstore brands, yes, this is quite pricey, but remember the long-term effects of what you put on your skin and most importantly, your eyes. No matter what, microscopic particles of your makeup end up in your eyes and you want to make sure that if you’re destined to wear mascara, that the mascara you’re wearing has the best ingredients for that. Plus, I’ve tried drugstore brands and I’ve gotten better results with less coats of this than with any drugstore mascara I’ve tried.
