This full-size product was included in one of my Glossyboxes and as much as I love getting full-size goodies, I was a bit bummed for it to be a lip liner. That doesn’t mean that this product wasn’t worthwhile, it’s just that most lip products available nowadays make lip liners obsolete. Nonetheless, it’s a full-size makeup product that I was not about to waste and if I’m being honest, some luxury brands still have a few products that bleed.
I also don’t wear bright red lips on a consistent basis, so there was no way this would be used up by the expiration date they marked on the box. On the immediate upside, there isn’t a scent to it so there’s no chance of any triggers for those of you who get headaches or migraines easily from smells.
The white on gold design to the box creates a sleek and simple vibe to set the tempo for the product. I prefer to keep products in the boxes to prevent damage against the actual product and since this has a colored sticker with the shade name on the end, this works out perfectly for easily picking this out instead of opening and closing a bunch before finding the one that I need. If I didn’t keep the box, this would be one of those products that I would have to fish through because there’s no way to identify the color unless I open it.
The pale gold reflective material enhances the sleek look and contributes a healthy dose of elegance to it, as well. I do think it’s really cool and unique that they included a lip brush on the opposite end of the liner to smudge out the product or apply a lip product with over the lip liner. It was a nice intention, but not very sanitary is you use it on a gloss because the liquid will migrate around inside the cap and it’s impossible to clean it out. The brush is easy to clean on its own, but the cap is a lost cause once something liquid seeps down it.
Speaking of the caps, they’re secured very well on the liner, which gives me added piece of mind in case I ever do bring this along in my bag without the box, that this won’t cause a mess in my bag and over all the contents inside it as well. My favorite feature about the product is the company symbol they marked on the box and the lip liner. It feels very earthy with a blend of modern vibes to it which I’m totally on board for.
I don’t have any complaints regarding the wear factors of this product because it checks off all the normal boxes, but it is just an unnecessary product in general. It does its job at preventing lip product from bleeding and it doesn’t settle into the vertical lines on my lips. Probably my favorite use of this is using it as a barrier for the damaging matte lipsticks I use because it truly does condition my lips. Now, it obviously conditions more with lip products that don’t suck the life out of my lips like mattes do, but it does its job nonetheless. I prefer using this lip liner on those lipsticks, even if the color doesn’t match because my lips feel way healthier with this providing that safety barrier between the two.
The conditioning benefits aren’t felt as quickly as, say a lip gloss or lipstick, would, but I can feel the difference during wear time. It has a matte finish, which is also a surprise that they were able to have a conditioning product provide a matte finish when so many matte lipsticks cause intense damage and drying on my lips. With this, there is an obvious difference between moisturizing and conditioning because it doesn’t feel like the softeners in this penetrate my skin, only sit atop it to be Switzerland for my lip products over it.
There has yet to be any signs of feathering or enhancing any dryness in my lips, so that’s always a plus. A nice factor is that this doesn’t fade very easily, but when it does, it’s even, which ends up looking like a stain instead of making me look like the Joker, so it buys me some time to touch-up my lips if I’m not close to a mirror. This seems to work just fine with any kind of formula or complexion because no matter what, it’s still going to be a bold red, but at least it’ll work with any red lipstick or lip gloss you already own.
It does seem to crumble a little when applying it, but that’s easily fixed when using a creamy lipstick, lip gloss, or the brush to soften them. The pigment from it is pretty decent once the product is warmed up, but at first, it’s very dry and pulls at my skin. Worn alone, the formula seems waterproof, but that result varies on what lip products I wear over it.
This does wear nicely and the brush is a sweet bonus, so overall, this would be worth the money IF lip liners weren’t pretty much useless.
