My Thoughts:

The one thing I miss about working at Sephora: the gratis. I know that sounds terrible, but who doesn’t love free makeup? I got this gorgeous, limited edition palette from Sephora when I was a seasonal employee a while back and I’m OBSESSED! It has all the perfect colors for a summer, beachy vibe to any eye look and as always, it comes with the handy-dandy How-To cards inside. Lucky for me, I live in southern California where it’s pretty much summer all year-round, so these colors look great any time of year. The main downside to this being a LE palette is that I can’t replace the colors with full-size shadows from Too Faced because the company has yet to offer them. Since they refuse to help out their consumers in that way, I will list dupes for the colors from Urban Decay, Sephora and Make Up For Ever if available.

This is my favorite palette to reach for when I want a little play on more vibrant colors than my usual norm that sticks to natural looks and I really wish they kept this palette around. Since it does have mostly neutral colors, this makes a great choice for those who haven’t really experimented with wearing brighter colors in their eye looks but want to get their toes wet with the idea. As much as I love the neutral palettes that Too Faced comes out with, especially since that’s what I wear the most, but it’s nice when they mix things up and release palettes like this because after a while, their palettes start to look the same. I’m not hating on that by any means, because I’m OBSESSED with all their other palettes, I’m just saying it’s nice when they give more color options, especially since they don’t sell individual eyeshadows.

Packaging:                                                ★/5

This has the same packaging as the Natural Eye and the Natural at Night palettes being that they’re made of what feels like sturdy cardboard. The thickness of the palette seems to be a bit bulky, but it does give added piece of mind that the eyeshadows won’t break when I accidentally drop this. The shadows are well-spaced by being far enough that I don’t have to worry about one shadow dusting into another when I’m picking up a color, but close enough that it doesn’t seem like a bunch of space is wasted on the design.

Ah, the design of it all; how perfectly aquatic and cute is this?! The company did a great job with the oceanic décor and names of the colors, and I love how the most (recommended) used shadows are the bigger ones which helps from running out of products at uneven times. Only a couple of the colors have fallout which in turn also have a slight kickback effect in the palette, but nothing too serious that would make it a deal-breaker if this was still available for purchase.

Open

The How-To guides are always a plus for me because they come in handy for days I’m in a hurry or have no creative inspiration to create my own look. All I have to do is slide out the cards from the sleeve on the top of the inside of the palette (stealthy little thing, isn’t it?) and I have a pre-planned look ready to save me time in my day. The magnet is really strong like it is with the other two palettes I have with this same packaging which is great for tossing it in my gym bag because it’s compact and I don’t have to worry about it opening up form rustling around with other stuff in my bag.

Performance/Wear:                               ★/5

As always, the formulas made by Too Faced are amazing and this palette is no different. The colors blend so easily and gently on my eyes because they’re finely-milled and so soft. As a bonus, a lot of the colors can be multi-purpose, depending on your complexion. When applied over eye primer, the colors last all day without any signs of creasing or fading, regardless if you apply them wet or dry. I love the color options in the palette because they suit a summer beach theme so perfectly, but I was curious how they decided to pair a blue eyeshadow with a brown, only because I was always told that was a huge no-no when it comes to color-coordinating. Then again, I don’t really care about trends or rules people make up for makeup, I wear what I feel confident and comfortable in and since it doesn’t hurt anyone, it shouldn’t matter, right? Of course, stick to the fundamental rules when it comes to color correction and matching tones for foundation, etc. etc., but don’t let the rules that other people dictate confine your creativity.

All these colors wear great on any complexion and are perfect for sensitive skin, like all their other eyeshadows.

Price:                                                          ★/5

Well, since I got this for free, I can’t complain about the price 😉 , but this retailed for the same price as the other palettes like this ( Natural Eye and Natural at Night) so I still think the price is justified. The eyeshadows last quite some time and they’re well-pigmented. The packaging is sturdy and it comes with guide cards which are both huge pluses in my book.
