Tarte – Glamazon Pure Performance 12-Hour Lipstick (Inspired)

Online Description:

tarte introduces its very first long-wear, clay-infused lipstick. A unique blend of emollient-rich butters (mango, avocado and shea) is encapsulated in this tarte12-hour power formula to achieve rich, vivid, and long-wearing color that applies smoothly and won’t fade away.

Amazonian clay: restores the lips’ natural moisture content with nourishing and hydrating properties Mango: extracted from mango fruit kernels, provides emollient and regenerative benefits to soften lips

Product performance: This high cushion lipstick keeps lips moisturized all day long, minimizes the appearance of fine lines, and stops feathering in its tracks to give lips a perfect, plumped-up appearance, and long-wearing color that applies smoothly and won’t fade away.

For perfectly shaped matte lips, start in the middle of the lips and smooth out to the corners of the mouth.

My Thoughts:

This little gem came in one of the Sephora Favorites sets and I was excited to try it since I really liked their Amazonian product line, and this seemed pretty similar to that. I was sad to find out this product was discontinued because it does mostly everything that it promises and it’s all wrapped up in some chic packaging to boot. Luckily, I already know I love their Tartiest matte lip paint so I have a great replacement from the same brand since I can’t purchase this any longer.

I have rarely had issues with any Tarte product before, any that would hinder my opinion of them, that is, and it’s such a bummer when they release awesome products like this and then take them away from consumers after we’ve fallen in love with them. I guess it really is true what they say, “You snooze, you lose.” ☹

Packaging:                                                ★★★★/5

First of all, I LOVE the design details because they’re simple, yet they do give a earthier feel to it with the wood pattern underneath the color design. The sturdiness of the packaging is without a doubt, amazing, which is a double-edged sword because it is a bit difficult to open. The piece inside that keeps it closed is pretty strong which is great because it gives me added piece of mind that this won’t pop open in my bag, but also a pain for those of us with hand and wrist issues.

I have to give credit where credit is due and give kudos to the company using a twist-top with the manufacturing of this lipstick. I loathe lip products that require sharpening and I’m always happier when I get products without that hassle. With the thin shape, the product is easier to control and provides a more precise application, while being compact and lightweight for travel.

Performance/Wear:                               ★★★★★/5

This lipstick really is something, and I mean that in a positive way, of course! The color is so rich and pigmented, the thin stick helps create a precise application, and the texture is so creamy that the lipstick just glides on my lips without any pulling on my skin. This is one of those lipsticks that makes lip liners obsolete because it gets by just fine on its own without bleeding or feathering and gradually fades evenly throughout the day.

It does market that it stays on for 12 hours, but I drink a lot of water so there’s no way with its creamy texture was it going to stay put, but it doesn’t transfer a lot at a time; it’s quite minimal. I’m sure if I didn’t drink anything all day, this probably would hold up because it doesn’t seem to falter as much as I chit chat throughout the day. Transferring and smudging seem to be its only problems and obviously when a product has the ability to transfer, it has the ability to smudge, so be careful when kissing someone! 😉

For my light skin complexion, this is more of a darker, bold color, but for some of my medium & dark complexion clients, this is more of a natural or light color, but either way, it works marvelously on any skin complexion, especially for those who prefer natural looks. If I need this to be lighter on my lips so it doesn’t attract the attention to just my lips, I’ll add either a lighter gloss over it or a lighter lip liner under it. Yes, this doesn’t need a lip liner, but I’ve gotten so many from Sephora Favorites kits and Glossybox that I need to use them up anyways.

This can also double as a cream blush due to it’s velvet finish and rich texture. I know they market it as a matte finish, but to me matte just looks dry, while velvet looks soft, and this has a soft finish that looks like velvet. It doesn’t settle into lines which keep it from bleeding on the lips or creasing when I use it as a blush. This lipstick really feels to take on the positive characteristics of clay; for example, it takes on this waterproof or water-resistant effect because every time I get careless when I drink something and spill it on myself, the lipstick always remains intact without any spots of diluted/removed product.

It really does leave my lips well-moisturized throughout its wear, which is surprising because most marketed matte products dry my skin out. However, it doesn’t seem to make my lips look any plumper than they are without this, but that’s not really a deal-breaker for me. I don’t really shop for products to plump my lips, because if I wanted my lips plumper, I would cut through the red tape and just got get them filled. Understandably, some people aren’t comfortable with that option under any circumstances and that’s why they get products that have plumping ingredients and for those people, I’d say that it was a good thing this was discontinued then because this wouldn’t be the product for the job.

Even though this feels very moisturizing, I still have to suggest exfoliating your lips prior because chapped lips will show through. I know it sounds weird that a product that is very moisturizing would enhance the signs of dryness, but if the dryness is there before the application, it’s going to show up until the moisturizers can do their job, which takes time. To avoid the wait, just exfoliate your lips prior to applying this and that problem is easily fixed.

Price:                                                          ★★★★/5

If I had gotten this as a full-size I would agree that the product justifies the price, but I only got a deluxe mini and the product is discontinued, so there’s no way I can vouch for how much use you can get out of the full-size product generally. This little one gave me quite a few uses out of it and considering it is multi-purpose, that also adds to it’s worth. From the sturdy packaging to the overall quality, I would’ve recommended this for sure.
