My Thoughts:

This is by far the BEST CC cream I have tried to date! It’s times like these that I’m grateful for the free samples Sephora sends with their online purchases because without that, I don’t think I would’ve tried this out. I am the kind of girl who sticks to the whole “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” motto and when I find a product that works well enough to my liking and the price isn’t going to give me anxiety, I tend to stick with it. I don’t have patience to constantly being trying out new foundations because they’re the most exhausting in my opinion.

I’ll try new eyeshadows, blushes, eyeliners, etc. but I will drag my feet on trying new base formulas because it takes me quite some time to find not only a formula that does everything I want it to, but also to correctly match my skin. My skin is fair with neutral tones, yet 90% of the products I try that say their neutral, oxidize to an ugly orange-ish color that is too dark.

For a while, I just dealt with the fact that most foundations don’t make my exact shade and accepted the ugly line of demarcation (blending down your neck doesn’t help if it’s still the wrong shade) until my favorite foundation stopped working on my skin because they changed their formula. Most of the time, Sephora doesn’t even send the samples I choose online, so this is one of the good instances that they sent me the wrong thing because I was able to try out this product before I bought it.

The shade they sent me was too dark and so I tried the light shade instead and that color works well on me in the summertime when I get more sun on my face, but it is too dark for the fall and winter times where I become a tad more reclusive. Living in California, we have sunny days pretty much all year long, but sometimes the wind (during the fall and winter) gets too high and you can’t enjoy being outside which in turn, makes me slightly paler in my face. This color is perfect for that, and since it matches me in my lighter seasons of the year, I keep this and just build my summer foundation shades over this when I need to darken it a bit.

Performance/Wear:                               ★/5

Alright, this is going to sound cheesy, but this really does give the illusion that it’s still my skin, but better. Yes, I can sense your eye rolls, and I thought the same thing when I first read about the product, but this is basically the ‘Gingham’ filter off Instagram in a tube that you can put on your face. It is light enough that it doesn’t feel like it’s suffocating my skin, but thick enough that it blurs out many blemishes and imperfections. With that being said, this is not as full-coverage as they advertise and will not cover dark, thick acne scars that are very noticeable on my light complexion. It does work well with many other foundation formulas so what I’ll do is use this as a base, then apply a foundation with more coverage over this.

What’s great about that method is that I don’t need a full coverage foundation over this to get full-coverage. This foundation provides light-medium coverage (depending how much you use) and applying a medium coverage foundation over it gives a seamless, full-coverage result. It does have some color-correcting effects to it, but same as the general coverage, this is not an industrial strength corrector so it won’t work as well on very dark under eye circles or dark blemishes. Worn alone, this provides a dewy finish with most imperfections blurred and it seems to settle and blend itself. What I mean by that is that it looks like it melts into your skin and becomes one with it, without any streaks that you have to go back in with a beautyblender or brush to fix (assuming you applied this evenly over your face and neck with your fingers).

Now, layering this with another foundation and then applying powder over that, gives a flawless, full-coverage, glammed look that keeps my skin feeling healthy and balanced without feeling like product is just sitting on it. I don’t know how the company does it, but this just seems to work synergistically with my skin. The coverage on its own is so versatile and I use this more often than any other base product I own because of how well it works in every kind of setting with many product formulas. When I’m feeling lazy or unmotivated, I wear this, some mascara, and some lip balm. On days I just need sunscreen and some color to not feel like I look like a zombie, I reach for this. On date nights that I want to get all dolled up for, I start my face with this.

Open

To test how well this hold up against sweat, (you guessed it) I tested it against my sweatiest activity, hiking. Let me apologize in advance because I can already see my esthetician friends cringing at reading that, because I know one of the main rules of skincare is not to work out in makeup, but I broke it anyways. I think there has to be someone willing to land on the breakout grenade to be able to test just how true a product’s promises are for long-wear results and holding itself together without breaking up from sweat and I’m that person.

After a grueling (but so worthwhile) hike, this actually held up pretty well, despite the main place I expected any foundation to falter, my upper lip. There’s really no appealing way to say that, but everyone gets a sweaty upper lip at some point because of the heat from our noses and it happens more frequently during physical activity. What really impressed me is despite how lightweight this feels on my skin, the sunscreen worked just as well as some of my other heavier sunscreens. I sunburn VERY easily, and it almost never turns into a tan, so when I get the slightest bit of color on my face, that’s usually what it is from.

The consistency is a great medium between thick and thin because it’s thick enough to apply gently around my face without any tugging and it doesn’t dry out while I’m applying it, but it’s thin enough that it doesn’t feel like a wet layer of product on my face that takes forever to dry. It reminds me of a gel cream, you know, the best of both worlds. Best part? There’s no creasing on my eyes or under eye area. Well, when worn alone, that is, but when layered over with another product, that kind of varies on the other foundation and the powder you use to set it.

Price:                                                          ★/5

For being skincare moisturizer, sunscreen, makeup primer, and makeup foundation, yes this is worth the money. It may seem like the company has their fingers in way too many pots at one time that they can’t possibly succeed with all these products wrapped into one, but I promise you, It Cosmetics pulls through on this one. I thought I would burn through this a lot faster than most of my other products because this does so much in one tube, but I’ve had the same tube for a few months now and have used it almost every day and I’m still not close to being empty. Plus, the company will routinely sell this in a set with deluxe minis of a couple skincare items (how I got this one) for a dollar or two more than the foundation price alone and that’s a deal on its own. You get to try two new products for a dollar, while still getting this great foundation that’s known for its awesome results.

Packaging:                                                ★/5

The tube isn’t my favorite, but I’m not going to argue about it when they’ve got a pump attached. If it was just a squeeze-tube packaging, that might be a deal breaker because those products are painful to use for those of us with hand and wrist pain, but the pump is a saving grace. What’s better is because they used a tube and not a bottle, it is easier to scrape out the remaining product after the pump can’t pull out anymore. Call me crazy, but I’m not one of those people who will toss out a product because I won’t cut open the bottom and scrape out another week’s worth of product.

Nope, not me. I am not dogging anyone who doesn’t have the time or patience for it, but I am someone who makes the most of every dollar I earn and when products are this expensive, you can bet yourself I’ll be pulling every bit of product I paid for out of that tube. When companies use bottles, most of the time, they have skinny necks that are hard to get a tool through to get the product out so you might as well toss it. That’s assuming the top even twists off. With this, I’m given the ability to make the most of my purchase. But by that time, I’ve already got a replacement on standby because I seriously love this stuff and have become somewhat dependent on it (darn habits!).
