Urban Decay – Revolution High-Color Lipgloss (Scandal)

Box (Front)

Online Description:

What fits in your pocket, glides on and keeps you coming back for more? The answer’s not naughty, but the effect on your lips certainly will be! Get bad-girl beautiful with Revolution High-Color Lipgloss—insanely intense color with badass shine. Our high-coverage, ultra-pigmented formula lays down all the color you crave in one coat.

Revolution High-Color Lipgloss comes in a huge range of lust-worthy shades in both cream and sparkle textures. With gorgeous nudes, bold brights and deep, dark shades, our lineup has something for everyone, from longstanding favorites (like 69, Big Bang, Punch Drunk and Apocalypse) to brand new shades destined for cult status.

Revolution High-Color Lipgloss feels and looks amazing on your lips. Our Pigment Infusion System™ gives the formula its super creamy texture, insane pigmentation and superior color dispersion. It’s also laced with Hilurlip™, which defines and hydrates lips while making them look plumper and fuller.

We modeled the flat, pocket-friendly profile of our Revolution Lipgloss case after a vintage cult-favorite UD lipgloss, then gave the component gorgeous facets and a highly metallized gunmetal cap reminiscent of our Revolution Lipstick case.

So you can conveniently see the shade inside, we gave Revolution Lipgloss a clear barrel. And the plush silicone paddle applicator is flocked, providing control plus a generous laydown of gloss in just one coat.

For bold, shiny color that really lasts, apply Ultimate Ozone Multipurpose Primer Pencil over your lips. The thick barrel covers your lips in one quick swipe and helps hold lip color in place and prevent feathering. Follow with Revolution High-Color Lipgloss.

My Thoughts:

One of my weaknesses is browsing the sale section on Sephora’s website and boredom buying. It’s an awful habit, but I never buy stuff I don’t research through reviews and never lose my receipts, so I can return it just in case I don’t like it. The awesome thing about Sephora is that even if you bought something that is on sale and gets discontinued shortly after, they’ll still let you return it for a refund or exchange it as long as you bring in the receipt. This lip gloss was one of those purchases and after trying it, I’m glad I did. To be honest, I’m surprised the company decided to phase these out because they’re surprisingly awesome for being lip glosses.

I don’t mean to poo all over the concept of lip glosses, but they’re not my preference because most of the time, they tend to be too heavy or sticky and they bleed very easily. This turned out to have none of the normal lip gloss setbacks, which made me rethink my resistance to purchasing them more often in the future. Normally, I stick to buying lipsticks that have a shiny finish because they end up looking the same as lip glosses, without all the drama that comes along with glosses and there’s way more pigment to lipsticks (usually). Now, I’ve reconsidered investing in lip glosses, but I’ll now be on the search for a formula like this because of how great of an experience I’ve had with this.

I knew regardless that this would be a great product, even if it wasn’t for me because Urban Decay has such a prestigious reputation for amazing quality products that work for anyone. Most of my experience with UD’s products have been wonderful, but not everything was what I felt a good fit for me which doesn’t take away from the quality, only that I had to use it in either my makeup kit or give it away. The color that you can see through the tube is exactly what you get on your lips and it doesn’t oxidize or darken over wear time.

Scandal is a bold, bright, fushia pink that catches attention and the formula smells nice. Grab some of the available colors while they’re on sale before they’re gone for good!

Performance/Wear:                                  ★★★★★/5

I had to do a double-take to make sure the label said ‘lipgloss’ and not ‘lipstick’ when I first swatched this because holy moly, this bad boy has INTENSE pigment! I expected decent opacity from the reviews I read online, but wow, this formula is not playing around with they put ‘ultra-pigmented’ in the description! With a color this vibrant and pigmented, I suggest coordinating your makeup around this color because you don’t want to wear bold eyes and heavy contour and this heavy lip because then you’re face will look very busy. This looks best with a classic winged-liner and mascara while keeping the face fresh and natural with a medium-coverage foundation and letting this little gem be the star of the show.

The formula feels so rich a creamy from the moment it touches my lips and leaves my lips feeling conditioned for a few hours after it’s gone. It has a perfect balance of being heavy enough to feel like it’s really conditioning and sitting in place for the duration of its wear, yet not so light that I forget I’m wearing anything. This lip gloss doesn’t feel like a lip gloss normally does with its heavy, sticky texture and constant need for fixing because it’s bleeding around my lip line. Instead, this feels like a regular liquid lipstick does, but with way more shine, WAY more. With this amazing formula, the product effortlessly glides on my lips with no tugging or struggle to disperse product and with it being so pigmented, I only need one coat for pure opacity. A lot of other lip glosses, and sometimes lipsticks, require at least two layers for the same amount of coverage that this product offers in one sweep around my lips.

On another note, you can add this to the list of lip products that make lip liners obsolete. Crazy, right? I have found very few lip glosses that don’t need constant maintenance throughout the day from bleeding, and this one takes the cake. On top of that, it fades evenly leaving a gradual fade of the pink, without it staining my lips. Oh yeah, it doesn’t stain, so there’s no need to wear a lip primer, which also caught me by surprise because most lip products I’ve tried with this much vibrancy and pigment usually stain and are a nuisance to remove at the end of the day, but not this little gem. Removal is easy and painless with both my favorite makeup removers, Neutrogena’s wipes and my Makeup Eraser towel.

As I mentioned, the pigment in this is insane, but if you wanted to layer this with another product, you can. The formula in this product works well with numerous brands and types of lip products, even oils. I wanted to see how well this would hold up if I diluted it with my bottle of Josie Maran’s Argan oil to use it as a cheek color and a more natural lip color and it worked just fine. There was no point in my wear time where it broke up and became blotchy, nor did it fade on my cheeks until I removed it at the end of the day. Now, that isn’t something I do all the time, but I did want to check just how adaptive and versatile this product could be because I like to make the most of my purchases.

Since it is a gloss, it does transfer and will smudge if you’re not careful, so you’ll need to bring this along with you for touch-ups through-out the day. Another positive side to this not staining is when I’m applying it and I mess up because sometimes my hands get shaky (obviously being a surgeon would have not been a good career option for me), this allows for a quick and easy cleanup because I don’t have to put in extra work to wipe away the foundation from the area and reapply from scratch. All I have to do is get a Q-tip, wipe carefully to fix the error and voila, I can move on with my makeup without the stress of starting over.

The only downside I’ve found to this is that I never saw the ‘fuller and plumper’ effects like the company promised. Maybe that’s why they decided to discontinue this product? Either way, it’s still a good product, but if that’s a deal-breaker for you, I suggest going with another product.

Packaging:                                                  ★★★★★/5

Alright, I think we all expected this section to be highly rated because it’s an Urban Decay product. They always go the extra mile with the detail in their packaging to ensure their products resemble their edgy vibe. This lip gloss was obviously no different from that norm and I’m not one to complain. I really dig the clear bottom to the tube because it makes it way easier to find the color I want to use that day and in turn, saves time. The flattened shape gives it a unique design and perfect for fitting in our already too-small pockets (am I right, ladies?) Normally, I don’t carry stuff in my pockets, but there are occasions where I only bring my phone and my keys and whatever lippie I’m wearing that day, and, on those occasions, this is perfect.

The faceted grooves add an elegant touch to the edginess that is UD, while the lettering us reminds us that we’re still messing with product by a company that embodies a rebellious spirit. The sticker on the back is a bit of a nuisance because it’s constantly trying to come off because it can’t adhere well due to the uneven surface it’s on, and it’s too big to be placed on the bottom lip most lip products.

I love the soft-wand tip, because combined with the creamy formula, this makes for a quick and precise application in one, easy sweep. Also, the fact that the wand stick is clear is a nice touch and the wand tip itself is very unique because of its spear-like shape, instead of the usual angled tip that most other wands have. The ‘click’ sound and feeling provides an added piece of mind that this won’t pop open in my bag and create a bright pink mess all over the place.

Price:                                                           ★★★★★/5

I’d probably give a slightly lower rating if I had to pay the retail price on this, but since I got it on sale for half off, I won’t complain one bite. Especially since I didn’t expect it to be half as good as it turned out to be, so I don’t have any complaints here, in fact, I consider this a steal!
