Tarte – Amazonian Clay 12-Hour Blush (Paaarty)

Birthday Gift (Front)

Online Description:

What it is:
A long-wearing, solar-baked blush that lasts up to 12 hours.

What it does:
Infused with natural clay harvested from the banks of the Amazon River and naturally baked by the sun, this nutrient-rich blush benefits all skin types for a fade-free flawless finish that lasts an amazing 12 hours. Inspired by tarte’s bestselling shades of cheek stains and lip tints, the colors range from soft to vivid to suit a wide variety of skin tones. For oily skin types, Amazonian clay minimizes oil in and around pores to balance skin and keep product in place. Those with dry skin will benefit from the clay’s nourishing and hydrating properties, which naturally restore skin’s moisture. Combination skin types can rely on its ability to zero in on skin concerns and deliver benefits to restore complexion harmony. The result: Blush that wears better, longer, and truer.

Suggested Usage:
-Using a blush brush, fan over the apples of the cheeks, blending along the cheekbone.

My Thoughts:

Thank the universe for complimentary birthday gifts from Sephora! This little wonder came in a duo set courtesy of Tarte and Sephora and every time I use this, I’m thankful it did because I probably never would’ve diverted away from my usual brand choices between Too Faced, Urban Decay, Stila, and Sephora. Yes, I’ve tried other luxury brands that I’ve enjoyed, including ones by Tarte, but before this, Tarte never really impressed me enough to invest in multiple products. It’s not my proudest moment of ignorance, but I’m glad I know better now, because this is one of the best blushes I have ever used!

Between the silky formula, the pigment power to be reckoned with, and the attention to detail in their packaging, this is a holy grail for me! A lot of matte blushes I’ve tried before tend to be a bit patchy in their blending, so I lean more towards blushes with a hint of shimmer to them to add a glow and bring a flushed look of like back into my cheeks. One of the best parts about this color the company put in the birthday set is that it is universally flattering on all complexions.

For being such a petite compact, this has quite a bit of product in it. I know, from first glance it doesn’t seem like it, but since you don’t need much for each application, this will end up lasting quite some time.

The birthday set included this blush and their matte liquid lipstick:

Performance/Wear:                               ★★★★★/5

A little goes a long way with this powder, whether you apply it with your fingers, a sponge, or a brush. There is a bit of a kickback problem with this, but not so much that it would take away from my decision to repurchase it, but enough that I have to store it flat or the dust will get all over the inside of the compact. My preference is to apply this with a brush on the apples of my cheeks and blend outwards towards my hairline, but I’ve also tried applying this wet with a beautyblender and was incredibly surprised how well it blended without becoming blotchy or breaking up during the wear time. This color is great for multi-purposing as an eyeshadow or to turn your favorite cream lipstick into a matte finish. Using it for your lips takes a bit of extra time and a few extra steps in your routine, but it saves you from having to buy another matte lipstick, plus it omits the severe drying of the skin that mattes do. Simply apply your lipstick as normal, then pat this over with a dense brush, but take precautions to avoid getting the blush anywhere other than your intended areas. After that, lightly press a tissue over your lips, and repeat this a few times, and ta-da! Regardless how this is applied, it blends so easily and gently on the skin and feels soft to the touch. Did I mention how pigmented the powder is with the slightest touch of my brush on it? I honestly thought this was one of those blushes that I would have to build up to get my desired color, but from how pigmented this is and how easily it blends, this actually saves me a little time in my routine. Maybe now I’ll have time for coffee in the morning!

This may be just another product added to my makeup of a color pretty much identical to most of my others (what can I say, I’m biased towards dusty rose!), but I reach for this more than most of my other blushes pretty frequently because of how well this wears and how lightweight it is on my skin. Finally, a matte face product that doesn’t enhance the dryness and fine lines in my skin! I don’t know how they do it, but it looks like it blurs out imperfections and feels more like I’m wearing an Instagram filter than a blush. 😉 This doesn’t dry out my skin, nor does it make my enlarged pores look larger. I know, dry skin with large pores, my face is Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. With all that, I think the most impressive thing about this product is the validity of the product promise of long-lasting wear without breakdown. I’ve tried this on various skin types, and even on oily skin, this held up all day and looked just as good at night when I wash it off as it did when I first applied it.

When I was testing this out as a lip addition and eyeshadows, I wanted to see how well it worked with other formulas, especially competitor ones. I was not disappointed to find that it never creased or faded on my eyes, regardless what brand’s formula I used and it held up over various foundation formulas that ranged from tinted moisturizer to full-coverage. Overall, you can’t go wrong with this little gem, and even if you get a color you don’t like, Sephora has an amazing return policy so you can exchange it for a color that would work better for you.

Skin Swatch

Packaging:                                                ★/5

The outside of the compact is simple and reminds me of the beginning of spring when the flowers first bloom and everything is so gently colorful. The inside design deserves everyone’s attention because putting that much detail inside a deluxe mini of a product earns some respect and admiration. I gotta hand it to Tarte, they didn’t cut corners on the overall production of these, despite not making any profit from these sets. I would’ve liked to have a mirror on the inside, but I can respect them not wanting to lose even more money on millions of complimentary compacts to include them. The design in the powder alone speaks volumes because the company didn’t overwhelm the entire compact with flattering designs, they kept it simple with one major design on the part of the product that matters and let the quality of the product speak for itself. And let me tell you, IT SPOKE! I used this consistently for a little over a month and still have not made a dent in the design. Yes, you can tell that I’ve used it a bit, but the design is still gorgeous and makes me a little excited every time I use it.

The clasp is sturdy and strong and I have yet to have it open up and cause a mess in my bag, but it isn’t a struggle to open either. It is the happy medium between sturdy and reliable, and easy to open with my hands. I also want to give credit for the durability of the material used on the compact because I have accidentally dropped this a few times and the product remains in tact.

Price:                                                          ★/5

If I hadn’t been able to try this before buying a full-size of this, I would’ve said the price is a bit steep for a blush. After trying it for free, I gotta admit that you do get quite the bang for your buck on this. With 13 colors to choose from, the options are plenty for was to multi-purpose each color.
