My Thoughts:

Here I go again, falling in love with a product only to have my makeup dreams shattered by the news of a product discontinuation. I’m not a marketing expert, but it doesn’t make sense to me why companies have highly raved about products and then decide to discontinue them. What ever happened to, “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it,” these days? Either way, I’ve done my best to extend the use of this because I love using it and how well it wears with my preferred natural looks, but also avoid wearing it a lot to make it last longer. I know that’s a horrible aspect for makeup considering makeup gets old and at some point, unusable, but this is like Benefit’s Gimme Brow Gel for me. Sometimes there are just products that we aren’t ready to say, “Goodbye,” to and this is on that list of bittersweet goodbyes. I can’t remember exactly how I got this, but I’m pretty sure it was in a set or something because that’s usually how I like to try new products. When I first got it, I didn’t think I would like it because the color looked too dark for my comfort, but it is sheen enough not to make my look darker, yet pigmented enough to add some life back into my lips. I’m not much of a gloss user because most glosses tend to be too thick or too goopy, but this neither of those dreaded features.

I get that Too Faced has rolled out with way more lip product options that are amazing, I just wish that they kept this collection around for those of us that truly loved this product. The name is a bit risqué, as is TF’s track record would have it, and the smell reminds me of fresh cake in a bakery, before the overwhelming smell of diabetes that is frosting. I’ll never understand how people can eat only the frosting on cakes and leave the actual cake behind, because too much sugar makes my jaw hurt.

Performance/Wear:                          ★/5

This is a great example to never judge a book by its cover because as I mentioned before, I thought this was going to be too dark for me, but I was pleasantly surprised to find out it’s actually universally flattering. I’ve tried this on a few friends with different skin tones and due to it’s median of being sheen and lightly pigmented, this works on everyone. It advertises that it has a lip plumping effect which also made me a but hesitant to try due to bad experiences in the past, but this was not one that left my lips burning in the least. Instead, it has a tingling feeling that is also cooling and refreshing that fades away during wear time. I do notice a slight fullness to my lips, but nothing dramatic, and to be honest, that doesn’t bother me because if I did want a dramatic difference in fullness, I’d just go get my lips filled. The gloss doesn’t bleed, but it does transfer and can smudge so keep that in mind when changing clothes or kissing someone.

I used this on a daily basis for a while because I was so addicted to the amazing results, but then slowed my pace when I found out it was discontinued and wouldn’t be able to replace it. The small size is great for taking along in my bag for touch-ups throughout the day and wears great over other lip products for added shine and color. When I do wear this over other lip products, I don’t notice the tingling/cooling effect which is understandable and I’d recommend that to anyone who still has this, but hates the feeling it gives. My lips felt well-moisturized the entire time I wear this and I don’t need to apply lip balm prior, either. The moisturizing effects don’t last much longer after this is off my lips, so touch-ups are essential to maintaining that to prevent your lips from getting dry and chapped. I also like how it fades evenly and doesn’t sink into the lines in my lips, nor does it enhance the look of chapped spots on my lips when I have them. This gives an even, glossy result without being overwhelming with shine that I can direct a plane by reflection. 😉

Packaging:                                          ★/5

The packaging is pretty average when it comes to lip glosses and I love that they chose to put it in a tube with a wand, instead of a squeeze tube. Having the wand makes applications way easier and more precise, without having to worry about product build-up in the lid. The design is cute, yet sultry, as is the norm with Too Faced and I love their choice of font with the labeling. The writing is incredibly durable considering the amount of times I have thrown it in my bag and there isn’t a single part of a letter worn off by abrasion from another item in my bag.

Price:                                                   ★/5

As I mentioned, I don’t recall getting this individually, so it took me a while to find the retail price of this on its own and I gotta say that I’m pretty disappointed by it. Although the quality is amazing, the price is a joke for how much you get. I love this product, but there are higher end luxury products that work the same way or better for less. Maybe that’s why the company discontinued the product. I think it would’ve been better if they just reduced the price, because at least that way, they could’ve continued to make money off a product that so many of us loved.
