My Thoughts:

This lipstick hybrid came in a Sephora Favorites set shortly before the company launched these lipsticks as full-size product to market them (I’m assuming). When I first opened it and read the description, this seemed like a really functional product that could change the way makeup was applied. After using it, I became very underwhelmed with it entirely. With most lipsticks on the market today formulated so that lip liners are obsolete in general, what difference does this product bring to the table besides the chola look that’s now marketed as ombre lips. I think if the company initially marketed this lipstick as that, I wouldn’t be so displeased with the results because I would’ve expected the gradient look, but they sell it like the colors in the lipsticks blend well with the lip liners and they definitely do not. They are drastically different shades that can create an ombre look after you press your lips together a few times to blend out the hard line of demarcation. The teardrop shape is cool but inconvenient because it feels awkward applying it on my bottom lip and the overall packaging is awkward to hold. When I was really into crafts and painting, I loved the smell of acrylic paint because it brought on nostalgia for the memories and joy that painting brought, but now the smell kind of grosses me out.

Here’s a look at the set this lipstick came in…

Fushia Fever is a bright, electric pink that is bold on any complexion, making it a great choice for those who want to capture the room’s attention.

Performance/Wear:                          ★★★/5

This only gets 3 stars because of how intensely pigmented it is, every other feature rides the coat tail of that. For example, the texture itself is very creamy and moisturizing that I don’t need to apply lip balm prior to application and my lips aren’t damaged afterwards either. The color itself is very pigmented and if used VERY lightly, this can also double as a blush if you’re in a pinch. The liner has a matter finish while the lipstick has a cream finish with a little bit of shine to it. This never made my lips look fuller, just very opaque from the color. I’m not knocking the gradient effect because I think it looks really cool for editorial work, but for my daily use, this wasn’t a product I’d pick out in Sephora. With the liner feature, it doesn’t bleed and overall, this doesn’t feather and it fades evenly without staining, so removal at the end of the night isn’t a strain. It does transfer and smudge so keep that in mind when sharing kisses and taking drinks because you’ll need to reapply throughout the day. The overall wear-ability is fine, but I can’t justify a product that produces a gradient effect when it’s not something I would wear everyday to make the most of the purchase.

Swatch

Price:                                                   ★/5

Even if this had more product than the super-skinny and measly cream stick inside this tube, I still couldn’t justify the price to anyone unless I knew they loved to wear the gradient look frequently. For the smell and how little product is in it, I can’t justify purchasing this. Sorry Benefit, this one is a pass.

Packaging:                                          ★/5

Although they stuck with their chic and fun packaging, this one wasn’t the most thought-out in my opinion. The tube is just awkward to hold and then to have to flip it upside down to apply on my lower lip is ridiculous. The teardrop shape that the cream comes in is pretty cool and I’ll give them that, but it isn’t sensible in the end for me. I don’t like having to flip over my product to use it and overtime, the seconds wasted to flip a lipstick over add up, when instead, I could just use a liquid lipstick with a wand applicator and be done with it quicker. I know it seems ridiculous to dispute over, but for people who have very busy lives and every moment in accounted for, the time spent on makeup is crucial for what products make the cut.
