My Thoughts:

I got this as a free gift with purchase online through Sephora and I have a bit of mixed feelings about it so brace yourself. This was the first liquid lipstick product I ever used (not this color, it was in the shade Backstage Bambi) and it was when mattes first started kicking down the beauty line door. Everyone I knew was raving about this lipstick and how it actually held up, unlike every other lipstick they had used. So, obviously, I was intrigued. My first experience with this was not that great, but then again, this lipstick was pretty much all I had to base any expectations off for matte lipsticks so I kind of avoided them because I didn’t like how they dried out my lips. Fast forward to getting this as a freebie, I was hoping she reformulated the product so it wasn’t so damaging to my lips and low and behold, she hadn’t, or at least, it sure doesn’t seem like she did. On one hand, this product does as it promises by staying put through pretty much anything you put up against it, this was the first foot in the door for matte liquid lipsticks becoming the big trend it is today, and the packaging is always really rad. On the other hand, this adheres too well to the skin and feels like it sucks the moisture out of my lips, leaving them to be extremely sore and damaged from the dryness, and the formula makes it difficult to wash off. I’m not going to divulge deeply into politics, but I refuse to buy products for someone who is prejudice against people for their beliefs. I’m not sure if everyone read about it, but Kat Von D had a MUA competition and the girl who won was a Trump supporter and because of that, Kat Von D disqualified her and said she refused to associate herself with someone who supports Trump. Now, I’m not here to argue is Trump was a better choice than Hillary or vice versa, my standpoint is that it is incredibly unprofessional to discriminate against someone for their beliefs, plain and simple. This world is driven by consumerism and for someone who’s livelihood is built on the support of consumers, I found it surprising that she had the audacity to do that and disappointing that she would sink to that level. I genuinely believe that was the most childish anyone of that stature could have behaved in that scenario. On a lighter note, I do enjoy the smell of this because it’s lightly sweet and dissipates quickly once it dries.

Performance/Wear:                          ★/5

Yes, this lipstick stays put for the most part, as it promises, but it’ll eventually start to feather off after I’ve taken quite a few drinks of water that day. No, I don’t drink water out of a bowl and I’m not messy; I use a water bottle like everyone else, but I think that the moisture from the mouthpiece gradually breaks this down and that’s what causes the uneven fading. There is never a concern for bleeding or transferring (for the most part), and of course it doesn’t smudge. But I think that’s one of the main problems of this; it adheres TOO well to the skin. This honestly feels like some form of parasite on my lips because it just absorbs any ounce of moisture in my lips, leaving them damagingly dehydrated, and there is no benefit given back for all that damage. I have to reapply lip balm every few minutes after washing this off at night to undo the damage so I can wear makeup again the next day. That’s another thing, removing this is quite the nuisance! I have to scrub at my lips to get this off and I should NEVER have to put that much stress on my skin for the sake of any product. Applying lip balm preemptively does nothing to prevent the damage because the lipstick parches through that and still goes to my lips and over-dries them, too. There is no winning in the integrity of my lips area of this, no matter what I do. Why, you might ask, do I still bother with this? A couple of reasons. First, I hate wasting product so I try to do what I can to avoid throwing things away that aren’t empty (don’t worry, I’m not a hoarder), and second, I am hopeful that there is a lip product out there that will provide a safe barrier between my lips and this lipstick that way, I can update this for those who still love this product, but want to save their lips. I’m all about experimenting because things can always improve. This particular color is a terra cotta nude, which is pretty dark and bold for my fair skin complexion. Overall, this is right alongside my least favorite lipsticks with Colourpop and Doucce’s matte lipsticks.

Well, since I won’t repurchase this, I can’t justify spending any money on them or advising anyone else to.

Packaging:                                          ★/5

I’ll give Kat credit for always having the most wicked designs to her makeup line. She said she does that by incorporating her tattoo artwork into the designs for her makeup line, which I can totally respect someone marketing their passions like that. The tubes are always sturdy and the soft wand applicator makes for a perfect, precise and clean application every time.
