My Thoughts:

This is the best lip formula I have EVER used! I was so surprised and excited that this applies so perfectly and feels so luxurious on my lips! I got this from a Sephora Favorites lip set and this was one of the deluxe minis in the set. I LOVE the scent! It is lightly perfumed, which reminds me of a faint waft of the perfume section at Sephora, mixed with clean laundry that’s fresh out of the dryer. Yes, I’m aware that is probably one of the oddest references I could make about a lipstick, but oh, well. I get so excited, yet bittersweet to use this because it truly is such an impeccable lipstick, but every time I use it, I know I’m that much closer to having to pay that ridiculous price tag to replace this. Side note: the company should make a sampler set of a handful of colors for people like me who want to try this product out with other colors, but don’t want to waste time or money if a product color doesn’t fit right. And let’s be honest, department store workers aren’t always the most consistent with sanitation steps when making samples if the store is swamped, so to avoid contracting some kind of bacteria by getting a sample off a poorly kept lipstick sample, I think the sampler set would be a better option. That way the company makes money, consumers don’t waste their time or money having to go exchange a product they turn out not to like, and even if a customer doesn’t like one of the colors, they can give it away to a friend who doesn’t mind that it was previously used. That may seem gross, but I’d much rather trust a friend who I know and that they make responsible choices with their body, than a lipstick tester that has mystery germs on it. This is genuinely the best lipstick I have EVER used and because of that I will end up buying more (darn you, YSL, your tricks worked again!), but I despise the price on this. Yes, this product does require often reapplications, but for how amazing your lips will feel after using this, I think you’ll agree that it’s worth it.

Performance/Wear:                          ★/5

This bumps every other lip product I love down a notch of my list of favor. This is the most wonderful lipstick I have ever used and I’m so glad it was in the set I bought from Sephora so I could try it out. The color is so pigmented and matches my habitual natural makeup looks perfectly. I love this lipstick so much that I want to wear it all the time like lip balm, but that would be wasteful and let’s be honest, the price for this is outrageous to have to excessively replace this. My lips feel so moisturizing and look so much healthier when this fades throughout the day. This lipstick is so lightweight that it doesn’t feel like I have any lip product on which is odd because normally my lips are very dry when they’re bare (not even lip balm). Yet, this makes my lips feel like lips on people who have normal skin and don’t need to constantly apply lip balm to avoid chapped lips. Goals! If you don’t have dry skin, you wouldn’t understand the struggle. This has an average amount of shine that most cream lipsticks have so that’s neither a pro nor a con for me. Not enough shine isn’t a deal breaker for me because the lack of shine can enhance the look of dry and cracked lips, yet too much shine is not my personal favorite effect because it tends to make my lips look smaller in photos. This doesn’t bleed, saving money from needing to get a lip liner, but it does transfer. That being said, I don’t mind the transfer aspect. I would much rather have a product feel like it’s feeding the water from the Fountain of Youth into my lips via absorption through the skin, vs. the awful, damaging feeling that most matte lip products cause from being so adherent to my lips so that the color won’t budge. The fading is pretty even and since the color is very neutral, it leaves a natural look from the residual product. Touch-ups are a breeze, but caution when leaving it loose around in your bag. Oh, yeah, touch-ups are mandatory, though, unless you don’t really talk or drink or move your mouth in any way throughout the day, but again, it’s not the worst thing in the world. With how good this feels for my lips, I actually enjoy the touch-ups. I prefer to think of it as giving my lips some routine TLC throughout the day to keep them soft, moisturized, and pain-free. Application is quick and easy due to its quality ingredients and it doesn’t clump up or look streaky like other lippies tend to. I have NEVER used a lipstick that was this comfortable to wear and can’t wait to try more colors.

Price:                                                   ★/5

As a lipstick, the price is ridiculous. Normally, I argue that quality is justified over quality (within reason), but this is obnoxious. Yes, YSL is a prestigious brand which makes its prices higher than other brands, but sometimes these brands become a bit obnoxious and insulting for the price tag they demand. The quality is beyond amazing, but statistically, most people don’t make the kind of income to fund their cost of living, children, and anything other than expensive makeup. I have nothing against anyone who spoils themselves with high end makeup, because that’s pretty much all I can use since my skin reacts badly to drugstore makeup. My point is, not everyone can afford a lipstick the cost of a brunch date or school supplies for their kids. I understand that the more pristine ingredients that go into making a product, the higher the price will go, but this is just ridiculous.

Packaging:                                          ★/5

Elegant, simple, and unreliable. The aesthetic aspect of this packaging is wonderful because of the structured box shape, but the cap seems to have a mind of its own and finds any opportunity to fall off that it can. The best-case scenario would be that the company repackages this super amazing lipstick into a tube with a wand for better traveling. The stick of product itself holds up well under pressure when applying to my lips. A lot of other lipsticks I’ve used tend to either get pushed to one side of the inside of the tube or smushed in general, but this holds up remarkably well.
