Tarte – LipSurgence™ Lip Luster (Glisten)

Online Description:

What is it: A lip luster that gives lips a natural shimmering flush while softening and moisturizing them with LipSurgence technology.

Who is it for: Anyone who wants to give their lips a healthy dose of hydration, color, and shine.

Why is it different: This shimmering lip luster offer a high dose of color and shine in an easy twist-up stick, while tarte’s LipSurgence technology delivers a surge of moisture. Peppermint adds a refreshing burst of flavor with each application.

How do I use it: Twist up and apply as you would a lipstick.

My Thoughts:

This is one of the first Tarte lip products I owned when I first started trying out this brand and I was not disappointed! Now, this isn’t one of my favorite products, but this is still one I enjoy. I received this as a full-size product from my Glossybox subscription and I always love getting full-size products sent my way for cheaper than its full price. At first, the smell was nice and refreshing, yet becomes dull really quickly and starts to make me nauseous. Normally, I love peppermint smells, but for some reason, I can’t stand this one. Luckily, the smell dissipates quickly so it’s not that much of an issue. The peachy/coral color won me over so easily because that’s my favorite color right along with turquoise. I’m not sure why the company says the peppermint ‘adds a burst of flavor’ because this tastes like wax. No, I didn’t chomp right into the stick, I lightly tasted it once it was already on my lips to see if they were telling the truth about that or not and obviously, it was false advertising.

The shimmer in this does not play around! Oh, and insanely moisturizing! My lips feel so conditioned when I put this one and continue to feel that way until this fades off. The smell is a bit annoying after a while, but how good it makes my lips feel more than makes up for it! Even though this does feel awesome, I would still suggest exfoliating your lips prior to applying because this will enhance any flaws from cracks and dried lips. I think that’s from a combination from the shine in the formula and the intense shimmer in it. Oh, yeah, by the way, this shines like a lip gloss and I’m not saying that lightly. The formula is not only very shiny, but pretty sheer and becomes streaky when I try to apply extra layers. The shimmer is pretty intense and even though the product feels like it fades evenly, the shimmer seems to last not matter how much I tried rubbing it off with tissue. If you’ve run out of your favorite cream highlighter, you can use this in the meantime until you can replace the other one. Again, caution because even when you blend this on top of your cheekbones, the shimmer will still be intense. You can use this as a preliminary layer to protect and heal your lips before applying a harsher product like matte lipsticks, alone, or on top of whatever lipstick you want to add more shine and shimmer to. This is versatile not only because of its creamy texture, but also because of its sheer finish. Sheerness isn’t exactly a deal-breaker for me since I prefer wearing a more natural makeup look, but it does get frustrating when I want to wear this comfortable formula in this specific color, but opaque instead. Yes, I know, first world problem. On another note, this doesn’t bleed, but it does transfer. I think that becomes instantly obvious the moment you feel it on your lips.

Price:                                                   ★/5

The original price was $24.00, but it is now discontinued. This is one of the better values for the amount of product you get for the price

Packaging:                                          ★/5

The lid stinks because it falls off easily, but I’m willing to let that go for the fact that this is a twist product. The fact that sharpening products still exist blows my mind because there is a more sensible and efficient way for consumers to use and get new product out and it shouldn’t be by sharpening and throwing away half the entire product just to sharpen a dull end. The writing is cute and reminds me of the products I’d wear in high school that obviously gears towards a younger age group. Yet, not so young that I’d be worried about a 5-year-old showing me up by looking glam as heck at the grocery store while I’m in sweats and my hair in a bun. The writing is also pretty resistant to being scratched or rubbed against. I can leave this in my bag and as long as the cap is secure, the rest of the tube is fine and the letters never fade or get scratched off despite the rustle of stuff in my purse.
