Laura Mercier – Loose Setting Powder (Translucent)

Box (Front)

Online Description:

What it is:
A cult-favorite and award-winning, silky powder with a touch of sheer coverage to set makeup for lasting wear.

What it does:
Translucent Loose Setting Powder locks in makeup for long-lasting wear, without adding weight or texture. This bestseller creates a modern, matte finish with a touch of sheer coverage, while it absorbs oil and reduces shine all day. The pros know why it’s their favorite: the powder is a little denser than an average powder, providing super smooth, even application and blending. This no-flashback formula means you’ll look great in photos, and it creates a soft-focus effect to subtly blur the look of fine lines and imperfections. It will not settle into fine lines or pores and never looks cakey. These truly translucent shades work on all skin tones—from the fairest to the deepest. The just-released, Translucent Medium Deep shade was designed to be completely translucent on medium-deep to the deepest skin tones, ensuring that every skin tone gets a perfectly flawless, translucent finish.

Translucent: perfect for fair to medium and tan skin tones.
Translucent Medium Deep: Ideal for medium-deep to the deepest skin tones.

What else you need to know:
Renowned Makeup Artist Laura Mercier uses Setting Powder to set foundation and prolong its wear, so she applies it after foundation and concealer, and before applying powder-based color. An added benefit: it helps powder blush or bronzer go on more evenly.

Find Your Perfect Powder: While makeup artists and beauty junkies select a powder based on texture, finish, and skin type, others may find it easiest to choose based on skin type alone.

This professional-quality powder is noncomedogenic, non-caking, and dermatologist tested.

Research results:
In a consumer test on 32 women after 2 weeks:
– 100% said it’s the key to long-lasting makeup and ensures makeup lasts throughout the day
– 100% said it is lightweight and does not look cakey on skin
– 100% said it controls and reduces shine
– 97% said it absorbs excess oil

Suggested Usage:
-Preparing the puff is key: press the Laura Mercier Velour Powder Puff into the loose powder, then work the powder into the puff by folding and rubbing the halves together, or by tapping the powdered side vigorously on back of hand.
-Gently press the puff onto skin, using a rolling motion to work the powder in. (Around eyes, use Laura Mercier’s Secret Brightening Powder for Under Eyes).
-As with all Setting Powders, apply after any creamy formulas, including cream blush.
-Tip: When your entire makeup application is complete, including color, give your skin a velvety, finished look by using the Powder Brush to apply Translucent Loose Setting Powder to sides of your cheeks, and the center of the forehead, nose, and tip of the chin.

My Thoughts:

I have yet to find a setting powder that works nearly as perfectly as this! It feels so velvety and the smell is faint and barely noticeable. I love the size of the jar, to how versatile it is with any skin type and complexion. The only thing I don’t like about this is how long it took me to find it and the amount of money I wasted on other products that weren’t half the quality, but I tolerated because I wasn’t aware that this awesome powder existed. Yes, obviously that sounds cliché, but really all the best products make people sound that way when they fulfill their product purpose. This works amazing whether you use it with a brush, puff, or sponge. If you don’t have a matte color to match your skin tone, this also works marvelously to set eyeshadow primer as well. No flashback, no creasing, no product breakdown. This powder is AMAZEBALLS!!!

Performance/Wear:                          ★/5

Tired of cakey makeup or foundation breaking up and becoming blotchy throughout the day? THIS is the powder for you! Who am I kidding?! This powder is for everyone! It works with various foundation formulas without faltering on its phenomenal finish. That may or may not be a deal-breaker for some because it doesn’t matter what formula you use (satin, dewy, matte), this still has the same finish every time. It does diminish the color slightly of cream blushes, bronzers, and luminizers, so just keep that in mind when using them together. I have dry skin, but it doesn’t enhance and dry spots or dry out my skin. For my oily and combination clients, this keeps their shine under control without messing up their foundation. It claims to have a matte finish, but it never seems that way to me. It probably would if I packed it on a bit more, so I’ll try that out and update this if it does. I love how this keeps foundation from creasing or settling into lines, creating a more youthful appearance. The texture is so finely-milled that applying it and blending it on my skin feels incredibly smooth and gentle, unlike other setting powders like bareMinerals’ that tend to feel like rubbing dirt on my face. It also doesn’t leave that white, ashy filter that a lot of powders tend to do. Even on my laziest makeup days when I don’t put much effort into setting each individual spot on my face, I do a few quick swirls around my face with a brush that has this powder on it and my makeup still looks good. Given, it does start to break up during the day, but I was mentioning that it never leaves the dreaded ‘ghost face.’ I don’t fault the product for breaking up when I use it lazily, because I can’t expect a product to work any other way than how it’s advertised. Another added bonus is this doesn’t clog my pores! At least, it doesn’t seem to. Most of my breakouts are from foundation formulas in general because my skin gets a little moody because it’ll break out with one product one day and then won’t another. The quality of the formula really shows when my sensitive skin isn’t irritated by it by any means.

Price:                                                   ★/5

For the quality and amount in each container, this is definitely worth the price tag. A lot of other luxury brand competitors will sell less product for a higher cost with less quality and it boggles my mind that people buy them.

Packaging:                                          ★/5

Best loose powder jar ever! I would prefer a flat lid to the jar, but honestly, I’m just so happy it is a very wide jar that is easy to open! I hate opening smaller jars because it increases my hand and wrist pain. I love that the strainer (powder dispenser, whatever it’s called) is removable as well! When I had to repurchase this after I ran out, I kept the older jar and use it to shake new product into and swirl my brush around in. That way, I don’t have to dirty up another lid, creating more mess and avoiding less bacteria spread.

  1. Great post, I have this powder & while I like it I don’t quite love it as much as you do. It just seems to really emphasise my dry under eyes & makes them look crêpey. 😦
Quick question if you don’t mind. On the WordPress home page your pictures come up like a banner of four across & I was wondering do you do that in WordPress in a setting I am missing or in another app & then load it up? I’d love to know as it looks great.
