My Thoughts:

Let me start off by saying this product smells amazing. I love that it smells natural and not overpowering with artificial chemical perfumes. The floral scent in it reminds me of the flower fields back home in Texas. As always, these products work best when teamed up with the coordinating shampoo/conditioner within its product line. A lot of people tend to pick out a shampoo that will do one thing, and a conditioner that does another which ends up not living up to the promises the products intended and unhappy clients. For the best results, always use the in-shower products that fall in the same product line. When followed by the Style-prep smoother, it cuts flat-ironing time in half and the style will hold better without denting when I go to bed or letting my hair get frizzy by the end of the day. When only the shampoo and conditioner are used, any look is easily achieved with smooth, frizz-free ease. Whether it be curling, deep waving, flat-ironing, braiding, etc., these help build a smooth foundation for any style you want to strut. Curls and deep waving still hold the curls, and leave my hair silky smooth, with no crunch and the shape holds all day. Flat-ironing will hold a slick-straight style for a few days and the smooth texture these products provide result in easy braiding. It honestly feels like a detangler built-it, but I don’t recommend skipping that step in haircare maintenance. My only issue with the shampoo is that it leaves a residual feeling after rinsing which feels a little gritty, but after the conditioner is applied and rinsed, it just feels like there’s a thin layer of styling cream in my hair and no matter how much I rinse, that residual product feeling stays. It seems that the shampoo has the slight gritty texture to force the grip of the conditioner to hold on to the hair. The products are labeled saying that with continued use, hair becomes gradually straighter without the use of hot tools. After I put that to the test, I can confirm that is true. The downside to that is my hair never felt clean and ends up looking greasy by the next day even on days I didn’t even work out. My hair or scalp isn’t naturally oily so I know it was from these. I normally wash my hair every other day so not only did the continual use negatively affect the health of my scalp, but it also forced me to burn through product faster. One thing that bugs me about the product in general is that they don’t sell their products to cosmo professional stores and the only way to obtain it is to either work at an Aveda salon or purchase it at retail price from an Aveda salon. Neither of which I want to do so that refrains my willingness to repurchase. On the other hand, I can understand their reasoning because a lot of cosmos will buy salon products at the wholesale price and resell them to drugstore companies that water down the product and restock them on their shelves. Although it’s illegal, some distasteful and unprofessional cosmos will still do it to make a quick buck.

My application suggestions:

Start with a clarifying shampoo and lather at your roots. When you go to rinse, gently massage the product down to your ends as the water is diluting it so it gently cleanses your ends without over-drying them. Then use the shampoo as recommended, and towel-dry your hair to get excess moisture out before applying the conditioner from mid-length to ends of your hair. Leave in for a minute or two while you finish the rest of your shower routine and then rinse it out last.
